"But you'll miss so much"

December 14, 2017

A lovely friend of mine was worried that by driving so much, I'd miss a lot of the sights. She even sent a poem:

“We have no time to stand and stare.

No time to stand beneath the boughs

And stare as long as sheep or cows.

No time to see, when woods we pass,

Where squirrels hide their nuts in grass.

No time to see, in broad daylight,

Streams full of stars, like skies at night.”

I think a schedule of driving from 6am to 2pm means I'll have time to explore, but this is, after all, a road trip for a reason. So I replied:

"I have no time to hang around

Ten thousand miles of trees and lakes

Whilst wheels are burning up the ground

I’ll rarely need to use the brakes.

Yet,  if a bear appears en route

A moose amid the springtime grass

As long as it looks kinda cute

I’ll photograph it’s arse."
